Authorizations and stamps

Some tasks carry authority: accepting product, releasing a first piece, signing a certificate, deciding a disposition, performing a special process or nondestructive test. For these, the Operator Qualification and Authorization Record (G02) records the evidence each time someone is qualified, and two registers keep authority current.

  • Qualify on real work, assessed independently. The qualification record captures prerequisites, the demonstration, the evaluator and the decision, and reads 'Yes: authorize' only when all four checks pass.
  • Write the scope as narrowly as the evidence. Machines, part families, processes; limits that are lifted on evidence.
  • Put the dates on one register. Requalification, vision exam, last performed: the Status column turns each into Due, Overdue, Lapsed or Expired.
  • Control every stamp. One stamp, one person, for the life of the records it marked; recovered on the day someone leaves; held for a period before reissue.
  • Follow the specification where it sets its own rules. Special processes and nondestructive testing (for example NAS 410) and some customers set qualification, certification and continuity rules that come first.
