The Quality Performance Kit HandbookChapter 3 of 20

The monthly quality performance cycle

Every month moves through the same steps, in the same week. The shaded boxes are checks: Yes continues down, No goes to the note on the right.

  1. Working days 1 to 3: each measure owner pulls the month's counts from the source record and enters them on the dashboard's Monthly data (F08) and the NCR data (F09).
  2. Decision: Does every line pass the record check, with definitions unchanged? If yes, continue to the next step.
No:Fix the data first. A month entered out of order or a part larger than its whole makes every three-month figure wrong.
  3. Working day 4: the quality manager reads the scorecard, the NCR trend and the Paretos, and writes one line of comment against every off-target measure.
  4. Decision: Is any measure off target, getting worse, or showing a signal on the NCR trend? If yes, continue to the next step.
No:Note it as a steady month. Spend the meeting on objectives and open actions.
  5. Find the cause in the detail: stratify, read the Pareto by cause, cost it (F09, F11).
  6. Working day 5: monthly quality meeting, 60 minutes. One owner and one action per off-target line; objectives and their actions reviewed (F10); CAPA health and readiness (B09, A03).
  7. Decision: Does a problem need money, a customer report or top management? If yes, continue to the next step.
No:Actions go to the owners, the objectives register and the corrective action log.
  8. Improvement case to the general manager (F11); recovery report to executives or the customer (F12); item for management review.
  9. Each quarter: the scorecard, objectives, trends and costs go into the management review data pack (AQL-F03).
