There are six outcomes for nonconforming product. Each has a meaning, an authority and a record. The log (D19) and the MRB log (D20) use the same list so a line reads the same on both.
| Disposition | What it means | Who decides (our starting point) | What it needs before release |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rework | Brought back to full conformance by the normal process or an approved alternate operation | Quality engineer; the board if the operation is non-standard | The rework instruction; re-inspection against the original requirement |
| Repair | Made usable for its intended use, but it will not fully meet the drawing afterward | The board | Technical justification; approved repair instruction; the design authority's approval; the customer's authorization where the contract requires it |
| Use-as-is | Accepted as it is, because it will still do its job | The board | Technical justification; the design authority's approval; the customer's authorization where the contract requires it |
| Scrap | Will not be used | Quality engineer | Marked conspicuously and permanently, or kept under positive control, until it is made unusable; the customer told first if it is their property |
| Return to supplier | Sent back to the supplier that made it | Supplier quality engineer | Return reference on the tag; never for a suspect counterfeit part |
| Pending | No decision yet | Nobody | Nothing leaves the cage |
Regrade, recertification to a different specification, and conversion to another part number are special forms of use-as-is or rework; treat them as board cases. The full authority matrix, including suspect counterfeit parts, delivered product and safety-related characteristics, is on the Authority matrix tab of D20. Fill it in with your own rules.

A management aid, not certification or a registrar audit. Using it does not by itself show conformity to AS9100D or any other standard, and your customers' requirements may add to it.
Clause numbers refer to AS9100D (SAE AS9100 Rev D) unless another document is named. The standards' text is not reproduced here: use your own licensed copy.
Aegis Insights are our own guidance, labeled wherever they appear: how we approach this work, not a requirement of any standard or customer.
