The FAI and Production Readiness Kit HandbookChapter 14 of 22

After approval: into steady production

Approval is not the end of the launch. Four habits keep the process where the first article proved it:

  • Key characteristics monitored. Values recorded at the planned frequency on D16; capability (E06) after thirty parts; frequencies reduced only on the data, and with the customer's agreement where they require it.
  • The control plan in use. E07 at each operation, its reaction plans followed, and revised when the process changes.
  • First piece at every setup. E12 for every new and repeat setup, program edit and tool change on a key feature.
  • Triggers watched. Every engineering and process change (D11, E13) asks the first article question; the FAI plan log (D07) holds every partial; parts not built for a long time are flagged before they are reordered.
