The traveler carries the job from the saw to the shipping dock. It is where the inspection plan, the control plan and the order's requirements reach the people doing the work, and it is the record that shows the process ran as planned. E09 reviews it twice.
- Before release: the configuration matches the order and the drawing; every operation is in sequence with enough words to be signed against; every inspection point from E11 and E07 is on it at the right operation; outside processes name their approved sources and specification revisions; hold points stop the job; there is space for quantities, heat or lot and NCR numbers.
- At completion: every operation signed in sequence; quantities reconciled with every loss explained by an NCR or a split; changes on the job authorized on the traveler; certificates in hand and traced; the first article approved where the customer requires approval before shipment; ready for the certificate of conformance.
