The production readiness review decides, on evidence and before the first article, whether every part of the launch is ready to make product. D09 has thirty-eight checks across thirteen areas, each rated Ready, Ready with condition, Not ready or N/A by its owner before the meeting, with the evidence. At the meeting every condition and every Not ready gets an action, an owner, a due date and the point it protects (before the first article, before the first shipment, or before full-rate production).
| When | Who | How long | Decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| One to two weeks before the first article run; and for a transfer, a restart after a lapse or a major change | Plant manager (chair), manufacturing and quality engineering, quality manager, supplier quality, operations, inspection, planning | About 90 minutes for a new part | Go, Go with conditions, or No go with a re-review date |
How we run the meeting
| Step | Time | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Ratings before the meeting | 2 days before | Each owner rates their lines and attaches the evidence; the chair reads the Summary |
| Scope and dates | 5 min | The part, the order, the first article date and the first delivery |
| Not ready lines | 30 min | Each one: what is missing, the action, the owner, the date; can the launch proceed around it? |
| Conditions | 20 min | Each Ready with condition: the action, and the point it must be closed by |
| Walk the route | 20 min | The machine, the fixture, the gauge and the traveler at each operation |
| Decision | 10 min | Go, Go with conditions, or No go with a re-review date; sign the record |
| Follow-up | Within a week | The chair checks each condition at its point and records the date it closed |
D09's Summary reads the ratings and suggests a decision. The chair makes the decision and records it, with the reason and the signatures, on the Review record tab. A No go is followed by a short re-review a week later, not by a slow drift into production.
