D08 is the review between the last measurement and the signature. It starts with counts on its Reconciliation tab: balloons against Form 3 lines, lines against recorded results, key characteristics on the drawing against those flagged, nonconformances against those closed out, materials and processes against Form 2, sub-parts against Form 1. Every count that does not agree is a finding. Then thirty-four checks, section by section, answered from the package itself.
Every No is a finding with an owner and a fixed-on date; the reviewer looks again before changing it to Yes. The Summary shows the package ready to sign only when every check is answered and no finding is open. Section C of the Reconciliation tab records the review, the submission and the customer's decision.
Where packages bounce
| What goes wrong | The habit that prevents it |
|---|---|
| Form 3 has fewer lines than the drawing has balloons | One balloon per requirement, notes included; reconcile the counts first |
| 'OK' where a value belongs | Values for every variable characteristic; pass or fail only for true attribute checks |
| A certificate does not trace to the part | Certificate numbers written on the traveler at receiving; the lot checked against the part |
| Revisions do not agree | Order, drawing and part record checked side by side |
| Special process source not on the customer's list | Customer approval confirmed at planning, not at submission |
| Signed with a nonconformance open | The first article stays open until the affected characteristics are re-verified |
| CMM results the customer cannot read | Every CMM feature reported under its balloon number |
When a customer rejects a package, D08 is also where we learn: their reasons become findings, and the habit that would have prevented each becomes a new check in the blank rows.
