The problem it solves

New parts are launched by a date, not by readiness. The first article is run while the fixture is still being adjusted, the CMM program has never seen a part, the second shift has never set up the machine, or the plater is not on the customer's list. The problems surface one at a time during the first article and the first production runs, each as a delay, a nonconformance or a late shipment. A production readiness review puts every part of the launch on one page before the first article, rates each one on evidence, turns every gap into an action with an owner and a date, and records a decision the whole team signs: go, go with conditions, or not yet.

Who uses it

Program managers, manufacturing engineers and quality engineers who launch new or changed parts; plant managers who chair the review and own the decision.

When

One to two weeks before the first article run of a new part, a part moving to a new machine or site, a restart after a long lapse, or a major process change. Again a week later when the first review ends in No go.
