Resource Library/Aegis Quality Kits/Configuration and Change Control Kit
Configuration and Change Control Kit
One change traced from the drawing to the machine: impact assessment, configuration records and documented information control.
Start with the handbook: it sets out the workflow, who does what, the weekly rhythm, a 30-day setup plan and one worked example that runs through every tool below.
The kit, step by step
Each tool is free on its own page, with its own worked example from the same story.
- 1
Workbook · AQL-D10Configuration Management Register
Every part at its released configuration (drawing, specifications, router, programs, inspection plan, key characteristics and FAI, each with its revision), how it got there, and checks at the machine that what is built matches what is released.
- 2
Workbook · AQL-D11Engineering Change Impact Assessment
Assess every drawing, specification, order or engineering change before anything moves: twenty impact areas, effectivity and old-revision product, product safety, FAI, the customer question, every action to done, and a log of every change.
- 3
Workbook · AQL-A13Documented Information Control Register
Every controlled document with its revision, approval, points of use and review date; every revision issued and whether the old copies came back; external documents checked against their source; spot checks where documents are used; and the records you keep and for how long.
- 4
Workbook · AQL-C14Supplier Change Notification Register
Log every change your suppliers make to site, process, source, material, people or ownership; check your purchase order and your customer's requirements; decide with a first article where needed; and verify the first lot made after the change.
- 5
Workbook · AQL-E13Manufacturing Process Change Assessment
Assess every change to how a part is made or inspected before it reaches production: a risk screen, the customer's notice and approval, a validation plan with its criterion set first, the trial, the FAI, and a watch over the first lots, with every change on one log.

The problem it solves
In a small aerospace shop, configuration, change and document control usually live in three places with three owners: engineering files the drawing, the programmer updates the program, document control issues the new work instruction, and nobody owns the line between them. Changes arrive by email, get implemented by memory, and are finished when the drawing is filed. The result is the most common and most avoidable nonconformance in machining: perfect parts made to a superseded revision, because an old program, setup sheet or characteristic list was still at the machine. This handbook is the operating manual for the Configuration and Change Control Kit. It sets out one system: what a part's configuration is, how every kind of change moves through it, how documents and programs follow it to the floor, who does what, the weekly and monthly rhythm, a thirty-day setup plan, and one real-looking change traced through every tool.
Who uses it
Quality managers and directors who own configuration and change control, engineering and manufacturing engineering leads, document control, and the general manager who sponsors the work.
When
When you have had a wrong-revision NCR or audit finding; when customer changes arrive faster than you can track them; when you take over a quality system; or a quarter before a surveillance or recertification audit.
