The Supplier Performance and Recovery Kit HandbookChapter 9 of 18

Measuring performance

The Supplier Performance Scorecard (AQL-C04) scores every supplier every period on four measures, each a plain count over a count that the supplier can check from its own records:

MeasureCountsFrom
On-time deliveryPO lines received by the PO due date, divided by lines receivedERP receipts against the original due date
Lot acceptanceLots accepted, divided by lots received (later supplier-caused rejects count too)Receiving records; the NCR log (D19)
ResponsivenessCorrective action stages answered by their due dates, divided by stages dueThe SCAR register (C08)
DocumentationCertificates accepted first time, divided by certificates receivedReceiving records

Overall is the weighted average of the measures that have something to count; a measure with nothing to count is left out rather than scored as perfect. Bands on the Settings tab turn Overall into Green, Yellow or Red, with two rules you can switch: one measure below a floor caps the rating at Yellow, and an escape to your customer makes the period Red. Each line also finds the supplier's previous period and shows the change and the direction, and suggests a next step.

Agree the counting rules with each supplier once, in writing. Send every supplier its line every period, good or bad, and record the date. The Summary's base-wide on-time figure is weighted by volume: that is the figure your own delivery feels, and the one to take to management review with the supplier behind the trend named.
