A corrective action system needs an owner for the system and an owner for every action. Agree this table with your general manager before you start; most stalled systems have the second without the first.
| Role | Owns | Does | Decides |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quality manager or director | The system | Triage, weekly review, metrics, escalation, the management review input | Whether a problem needs a corrective action; closure |
| Action owner | One corrective action | Leads the investigation and the action; records the evidence | The action plan, with the team |
| Investigation team | The cause | Brings the knowledge of the process: operator, engineer, inspector | Whether the cause is confirmed |
| Process owner | The process the action changes | Puts the change into the process and keeps it there | How the change is made in their area |
| General manager | Resources and priority | Clears blocks the quality manager can't; reviews the monthly metrics | Resources, and escalated actions |
| Supplier quality engineer | Supplier corrective actions | Issues and follows the supplier's CAR (B01) | Acceptance of the supplier's response |
