Containment protects the customer while you investigate. It is not the corrective action, and it should not wait for the cause. Map every place suspect product could be: work in process, stock, product shipped, other part numbers that share the process, and the supplier's pipeline. Use the containment checklist (B11) so nothing is missed, and the escape template (B12) when product reached a customer.
Correction is what you do with the product in hand: rework, repair, scrap, or use-as-is through your nonconforming-product process and, where required, your customer. Record each on the NCR log (D19) with who authorized it.
