When will IA9100 be published, and when do we have to transition?
Nobody can say from a published source today. The IAQG has published key-change summaries of the draft; the final text and the transition arrangements are not out. That is why every tool in this package counts from the month the final text is published. When the IAQG and your registrar publish their arrangements, put the real dates beside the windows.
Can we be audited to IA9100 now?
No. Until the final text is published and your registrar offers transition audits, you are audited to AS9100D. The work in this package is planning and preparation, and most of it also helps your AS9100D audits.
Should we wait for the final text before doing anything?
Not for the records. About a third of the change items in a typical shop are small and useful today. Wait for the final text before rewriting procedures and the manual, and before formal training on the wording.
Our customer has not mentioned IA9100. Do we need to start?
Ask them, and write down the answer and the date. Even if they plan nothing early, the self-check takes an afternoon and the Do now items help today. Starting late is what makes a transition expensive.
We hold no design responsibility. Which items do not apply?
The design activity item (AP-5) does not apply to a build-to-print shop: mark it Not applicable with that reason. Almost everything else applies to every supplier, whatever its size.
Is this package the same as a gap analysis?
No. The package is a set of free tools you run yourself, from your own records, with plain counts. It is a management aid, not certification, a registrar audit or a prediction of a transition audit result.

IA9100 draft: based on the IAQG's published changes. IA9100 is not yet final, and the final text may change these topics and clause numbers.
A management aid, not certification or a registrar audit. Using it does not by itself show conformity to AS9100D or any other standard, and your customers' requirements may add to it.
Clause numbers refer to AS9100D (SAE AS9100 Rev D) unless another document is named. The standards' text is not reproduced here: use your own licensed copy.
Aegis Insights are our own guidance, labeled wherever they appear: how we approach this work, not a requirement of any standard or customer.
