When software decides acceptance, the software is part of the measurement system. A CMM program that measures the wrong feature, or a vision recipe with the wrong tolerance, accepts bad parts as reliably as a worn gauge. Treat them the same way:
- Each program or recipe that accepts product has an ID and a revision, on the register or a linked list.
- A new or changed program is verified before use: run it on a known part or artifact and compare with independent results. Record who verified it and when.
- Changes are controlled: who may edit, how the change is recorded, and which revision is released to the machine.
- Software updates to the measuring system itself (CMM software, test software) are followed by a verification run on the reference artifact.
- Test equipment (pressure, electrical, leak) follows the same register, recall and assessment path as dimensional gauges.
