The problem it solves

Supplier risk reviews in most shops look at quality and delivery history and stop there. The supplier that has never had a reject can still stop you dead: one furnace, one anodize line, one programmer who knows the job, a die that only fits one press, records on one computer. By the time you find out, your customer is asking for a recovery date. This workbook looks forward. For each critical supplier it measures your exposure in weeks (time to qualify an alternate, less the cover you hold), asks the supplier ten plain preparedness questions, flags where you are exposed and unprepared, and tracks the actions that close the gap.

Who uses it

Supply chain and purchasing managers, supplier quality engineers, and the operations leader who owns risks and opportunities.

When

Once a year for every critical supplier, at approval for any new sole or single source, and again after any disruption, ownership change or warning sign (late payments, lost key people, capacity trouble).
