Material Traceability Register

Every material receipt with its heat checked against its certificate, every issue to a work order with the marking carried, the balance left on the rack, and a lookup that answers 'this heat is suspect: where did it go?' in minutes.

The problem it solves

Traceability usually fails in two places nobody watches: at receiving, where a certificate is filed because it matches the purchase order rather than the bar, and at the saw, where a bar is cut, the marked end is scrapped and the remnant goes back on the rack with no heat on it. Then a heat turns suspect, or an auditor picks a finished part, and the answer takes an afternoon of digging through travelers. This register records every receipt with the heat checked against the certificate, every issue with the marking carried onto the traveler and the remnant, the balance left, and a lookup that goes from a heat to every work order it fed.

Who uses it

Receiving inspectors and stores, who keep it; quality engineers and supplier quality, who use it for containment and audits.

When

Add a receipt line at receiving and an issue line at every issue; use the lookup whenever a heat or a supplier is in question; read the Summary weekly.

Free to use, change and copy, in your own organization or with your clients; add your own logo, keep the Aegis credit. Clause references: 8.5.2 (with 8.4.2, 8.1.4, 8.7.1) (numbers only; use your own licensed copy of the standard).
