Product Safety Risk Assessment

The problem it solves

Ask a small aerospace shop how it manages product safety and the answer is usually 'we build to print' and 'the customer flags the critical parts'. Then an auditor asks which of your parts are safety relevant, how you decided, and what in your process protects each safety characteristic, and the answer is scattered across drawing notes, a PFMEA nobody has opened since first article and the memory of one engineer. This workbook puts it in one place: every part with the customer's designation and your own judgment, a risk line for each way your process could defeat a safety-relevant characteristic, a rating method you set and can explain, and the controls, actions and acceptances that answer each line. The IA9100 Product-Safety Change and Hazard Screen (AQL-D02) asks the safety question of each change; this workbook assesses the parts themselves.

Who uses it

Quality managers, quality engineers and manufacturing engineers who plan and control safety-relevant parts; the plant manager who accepts any risk that remains High.

When

Set it up once for every part you deliver; assess a part before its first article and again when its process, source or design changes; review each part at the interval you set and after any event that touches it.
